Part 2

In Part 1 , I said that you need to practise Maths regularly if you want to be confident and good at it. I recommended that you spent at least 20 minutes a day revising and practising Maths.
What do you actually do during the 20 minutes? Here are some of the things you can do during your 20 minutes Maths revision time:
1. Look at the problems/questions already discussed or done in lessons. Examine the method and the reasoning behind the solution. Now without looking at the answer given by the teacher in class, try answering the questions yourself. If you get stuck, look over the solution again and then try once more without referring to the solution.
2. Try out similar questions given in your textbook or workbook. You can also try to answer questions you got wrong in your test or homework.
3. Attempt to answer exam style questions. You can get these at the end of a chapter in your textbook or you can look for them on the internet. This will give you more confidence and improve your understanding of the topic.
4. Use interactive exercises given on certain websites. This will not only make the revision sessions interesting but it will give you an opportunity to apply your mathematical skills. I have included and will continue to include links to interactive activities through this blog.
The overall idea is that you are spending time revising or practising your Maths. Any effort put in will certainly produce good results.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://maths4me.blogspot.com/2008/05/how-to-be-good-in-maths-part-2.html' title='How to be good in Maths? Part 1

I often get this question from parents and students especially those
preparing for a major public exam. I think this question should be
asked very much earlier in ones schooling life. There are several
things to consider when you want to improve your Maths. The most
important being 'practice'. There is no short cut to learning Maths.
It's a skill you need to develop over time. You need to invest your
time. Imagine the time spent practicing Maths as saving money for your
future. Every minute you spend practicing is like depositing a penny
into your savings account for your future. The results of your efforts
will show overtime as improvement in your grades. I suggest you spend
at least 20 minutes a day practicing Maths. You will see and feel the
effect this have on your confidence and ability to answer questions
over a period of 4 to 5 weeks. In my next post I will discuss exactly
what you need to do in those 20 minutes you have set aside to learn
Maths.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://maths4me.blogspot.com/2007/10/how-to-become-good-at-maths-part-1.html' title='How to become good at Maths?
